2018 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the TWLF/Ethnic Studies strike at San Francisco State University. This student-led strike - the longest campus one in US history - eventually led to the establishment of ethnic studies not just at SF State, but at college campuses across the country, such as UCLA. As we mark this important moment in the history of ethnic studies and find ourselves back in San Francisco for the Association of Asian American Studies Conference, we at the UCLA Asian American Studies Center want to invite our past and current students, faculty, and staff to pause, reflect, and imagine new horizons as we look towards AASC’s own anniversary celebration in 2019-2010.

Join the UCLA Asian American Studies Center and Department on Friday, March 30th as we collectively reflect on the history and legacy of AASC; strengthen ties between alumni, current students and colleagues; and imagine the next 50 years of Asian American Studies at UCLA and beyond. Please also join us in welcoming our new AASC director, Professor Karen Umemoto!

The event will be immediately followed by a joint reading with Rabbit Fool Press, which is owned and edited by Asian Am MA and Amerasia staff alum Brandy Lien Worrall-Soriano. For more information on the reading, visit http://rabbitfool-aasc.eventbrite.com.

We invite our UCLA Asian American Studies family to bring copies of their new publications or information on new projects to display and share with us.

Light refreshments will be provided.

PLEASE NOTE: You do not have to register or attend the Association for Asian American Studies conference to join this event.
